✠A Reading from the beginning of the Holy Gospel according to St. Mark. 1: 1-8 All Respond: Glory to You, O Lord. The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. As it is written in Isaiah the prophet, "Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, who shall prepare thy way; the voice of one crying in the wilderness: Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight." John the baptizer appeared in the wilderness, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. And there went out to him all the country of Judea, and all the people of Jerusalem; and they were baptized by him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins. Now John was clothed with camel's hair, and had a leather girdle around his waist, and ate locusts and wild honey. And he preached, saying, "After me comes he who is mightier than I, the thong of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and untie. I have baptized you with water; but He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit." The Gospel of the Lord

May there be peace in Your virtues. R./ And abundance in your towers. O Lord, hear my prayer R./ And let my cry rise up to You. The Lord be with you. R./ And also with you. Let us pray. O God, Who is the longing of the saints, the counsel of the upright, and the power of the just; grant to these Your servants the peace which the world cannot give, that with our hearts dedicated to Your laws and the attacks of the evil one ended, our times may be peaceful through Your protection, through Christ our Lord.

✠A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St. Luke. 1:5-17
All Respond: Glory to You, O Lord. In the days of Herod, king of Judea, there was a priest named Zechariah, of the division of Abijah; and he had a wife of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth. And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless. But they had no child, because Elizabeth was barren, and both were advanced in years. Now while he was serving as priest before God when his division was on duty, according to the custom of the priesthood, it fell to him by lot to enter the temple of the Lord and burn incense. And the whole multitude of the people were praying outside at the hour of incense. And there appeared to him an angel of the Lord standing on the right side of the altar of incense. And Zechariah was troubled when he saw him, and fear fell upon him. But the angel said to him, "Do not be afraid, Zechariah, for your prayer is heard, and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you shall call his name John. And you will have joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his birth; for he will be great before the Lord, and he shall drink no wine nor strong drink, and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother's womb. And he will turn many of the sons of Israel to the Lord their God, and he will go before him in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just, to make ready for the Lord a people prepared."

Your clemence, O Lord, we humbly ask, that You may bless, aid, and nourish the fruits of the earth, and bless the works of Your servants, taking from us all harms, holding back all floods, repelling all harmful winds, blessing us with good weather, and defend us in peace from every attack of our enemies, we who You redeemed by the precious body and blood of Your son our Lord Jesus Christ, Who lives and reigns with You forever. 12. ✠A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St. John. 1:1-14
All Respond: Glory to You, O Lord.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God; all things were made through him, and without him was not anything made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of the human race. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. He came for testimony, to bear witness to the light, that all might believe through him. He was not the light, but came to bear witness to the light. The true light that enlightens every man was coming into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world knew him not. He came to his own home, and his own people received him not. But to all who received him, who believed in his name, he gave power to become children of God; who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, full of grace and truth; we have beheld his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father.
The Gospel of the Lord
All Respond: Praise to You, Lord Jesus Christ
15. After a brief pause, the priest clearly says:
Show us, Lord, Your mercy. R./ And grant us Your salvation. O Lord, hear my prayer. R./ And let my cry rise up to You. The Lord be with you. R./ And also with you.
Let us pray. O Lord, spare Your people, and keep us from being harmed by adversity, war, death, tempest, and danger, we who You redeemed by the precious body and blood of Your son our Lord Jesus Christ, Who lives and reigns with You forever.
16. The priest blesses the people as above in no. 4.
PROCESSION TO THE CHURCH
17. The priest, turning around to the altar, picks up the Monstrance, and blesses the people with the Sacrament. The servers then begin to process back to the Church, proceeding at a steady pace. Arriving at the altar, the thurifer remains in the sanctuary, while the cross-bearer and candle-bearers, entering the sanctuary and pausing in front of the altar, return to the sacristy. After carefully placing down what they are holding, they return to the sanctuary and remain at the side.
18. The priest, accompanied by the ombrellino as far as the edge of the sanctuary, proceeds to the altar, where he places the Monstrance on the corporal (and tabor), and, properly reverencing it, goes in front of the altar.
19. A hymn in honor of the Eucharist may be sung, during which the priest may incense the Blessed Sacrament. Following the hymn or, immediately if no hymn is sung, the priest and servers properly reverence the Most Blessed Sacrament, and return directly to the sacristy in silence.
